The Parish Council wants to have a safe route to connect the shops with the Recreation Ground.
This is so that children who are on their way to and from school and for shoppers who park on the Recreation Ground can cross the High Street safely.
This crossing is intended to have pedestrian priority and the Parish Council is working with Dorset Council Highways to develop a workable solution.
A raised surface will also make it easier for disabled scooters to cross from one side to the other.
The new crossing will link the expanded Library Walk with the widened path across the Recreation Ground.
