BT have upgraded the service available in some parts of the village.
If you are still running with a slow connection, it is worth checking with your current supplier (via their website) to see if a faster connection is available. They do not generally proactively inform households when faster service is available so the onus is on you to check.
Occasionally you might even get a cheaper contract with a faster service by renewing your contract, but it is more likely that you will have to pay a little more for your connection if you want a faster speed.
