Image of fire engine and sign saying "No BBQs or fires"Many areas of Dorset are now no-go areas for BBQs and campfires as new fines came into force this month.

Dorset Council is working with Forestry England and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire service to protect countryside areas including heathlands, forests, and coastlines from the devastation that unattended naked flames can cause.

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) have therefore been imposed which prevent people lighting fires, including BBQs, fireworks, lanterns, and campfires, in many areas – but does not extend to your own private garden.

Anyone found to be breaking the new restrictions in Public Spaces will be liable for a £100 fine and all banned items will be confiscated,

Please think about taking a picnic not a BBQ and do your bit to look after our environment – and of course, take all of your litter home with you for safe and appropriate recycling or disposal.
