The Queen's Jubilee logoThere will be many national events making the Queens Jubilee, including the long holiday weekend of June 2nd to 5th June, where both the Thursday and Friday are bank holidays. We want our village to be included in these celebrations and are looking for ways that residents and local groups can get involved. To get things rolling we are planning two events on the Recreation Ground.

Beacon Lighting

The first Lytchett event will be on Thursday June 2nd from around 21.00 and will feature the lighting of a celebratory Beacon. The Parish Council will supply the beacon, which will be lit at 21:45 along with many thousands of other beacons around the country. We have arranged for the Village Hall to be open and would like to hear from any other groups, organisations or clubs who would like to provide food or music/entertainment to support this event.

The Big Jubilee Picnic

Queen's Jubilee Big Lunch logoThe second event will be a big jubilee village picnic, planned for Sunday June 5th from 2-6pm and again based on and around the Recreation Ground. Many of you may decide to organise your own street parties, but not all roads in Lytchett Matravers are suitable for this, so we want to make sure everyone can join in. To support this, the Village Hall will be open, as well as the Sports Pavilion, and we are looking at lots of ideas from the TheBigJubileeLunch.com website where you can find suggestions for sharable food, jubilee cake recipes and table decorations, together with making and putting up bunting.  One thought we have had is to organise a Queens Jubilee Bake Off competition, which will help ensure a plentiful supply of cake for the afternoon. But as before, we would like to encourage village groups, organisations and clubs to get invovled. This might involve providing music, helping towards decorating the village, or perhaps by providing order-in-advance jubilee picnics, or buy-on-the-day food.

If you would like to get involved with either of these events, please get in touch with us at lmpc@lytchettmatraverspc.org.
