Dorset Council was awarded £2,294,941.45 from the Government’s Household Support Fund to help vulnerable households across the county in need of financial support.
At least 50 percent of the award will be used to support vulnerable families with children in Dorset through a diverse and comprehensive program. This has included grants for free school meals and winter heating, plus a package of help for care leavers to assist with food and winter clothing costs. They are also supporting vulnerable families directly through their Children’s Services locality teams, and further funding to help with food, energy bills and other household essentials, with £90,000 having been allocated to support local foodbanks. Funding has also been given to Citizen’s Advice and Age UK to provide additional support to vulnerable households, and the Lantern Trust to support residents experiencing homelessness.
